The Christian Terrorist?

Much ado has been made of the terrorist attacks in Norway by Anders Behring Breivik. Several newspapers have taken this as an opportunity to “prove” that Christianity is as likely to spawn terrorist as our Muslim counterparts.

So the real question becomes, was Breivik a Christian and what are the major differences between Muslim terrorist and so-called “Christian terrorist?”

We first have to define what constitutes a Christian. It’s important to note that while God has many children, He hasn’t a single grandchild. What do I mean by that? Being born into a Christian family does not a Christian make. Christianity is not a gene passed along like brown eyes, blonde hair or sickle cell anemia. It is a personal, transformative relationship with Jesus Christ. So, did Breivik meet this qualification? I’ve always found that the best answers come straight from the horses mouth.

“I’m not going to pretend I’m a very religious person as that would be a lie. I’ve always been very pragmatic and influenced by my secular surroundings and environment.” (Page 1344 of Breivik’s Manifesto)

“If praying will act as an additional mental boost/soothing it is the pragmatical thing to do. I guess I will find out… If there is a God I will be allowed to enter heaven as all other martyrs for the Church in the past.” (Page 1345 of Breivik’s Manifesto)

“[i]t is not required that you have a personal relationship with God or Jesus.” (Page 1361 of Breivik’s Manifesto)

These are merely a few of Breivik’s so called Christian quotes from his manifesto. Upon close examination we can see that he describes himself as a cultural Christian and even makes an argument that their could be such a thing as an Christian Atheist or Christian Agnostic. For Breivik, Christianity is about the European culture. It’s about holidays and a way of life. Anyone worth their salt knows that culture does not make one a Christian.

We have had a number of homegrown Muslim terrorist, born and raised in the USA. Following Breivik’s logic, they could just as easily be called Christian terrorist because of the predominantly “Christian culture” of the west. Breivik, as well as the liberal media display their ignorance of what constitutes a Christian. A Christian is an individual, be they from Europe, America, the Middle East or Mars who has repented of their sins and accepted Jesus as their Savior. This is the very qualification which Breivik admits he does not possess.

The media refuses to refer to Muslim terrorist as “Muslim Terrorist.” However, if the terrorist even stood too close to a church once in his life, he is titled a “Christian Terrorist.”

The biggest difference can be found in the scriptures of the two faiths. What does the New Testament say about violence and what does the Quran say about violence?

The Bible:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?” Matthew 5:43-46

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. Matthew 5:38-42

But Jesus said to him, “Friend, why have you come?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took Him. And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? Matthew 26:50-53

Likewise the soldiers asked him, saying, “And what shall we do?” So he said to them, “Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.” Luke 3:14

Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:17-21

How does the Quran measure up:

"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress limits...And slay them wherever ye catch them. and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for persecution is worse than slaughter; But fight them not at the sacred Mosque unless they (first) fight you there; But if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who reject faith. But if they cease, Allah is oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. And fight them on until there is no more persecution. And the religion becomes Allah's. But if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression" (Surah 2:190-193).

And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them andbesiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. Surah 9:5

Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah , and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of Taghut. So fight against the allies of Satan. Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak. Surah 4:76

[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terrorinto the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip." Surah 8:12

If the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is disease and those who spread rumors in al-Madinah do not cease, We willsurely incite you against them; then they will not remain your neighbors therein except for a little. Accursed wherever they are found, [being] seized and massacred completely. [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allah any change. Surah 33:60-21

O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination. Surah 9:73

O you who have believed, fight those adjacent to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness. And know that Allah is with the righteous. Surah 9:123

You see, one of the key differences between the “Christian” who commits an act of violence and the Muslim that does the same is that the “Christian” does so in violation of their faith. The Muslim terrorist, on the other hand is never more true to their faith than when they are involved in acts of violence against the unbelievers.

Does this mean that we should hate Muslims? Not at all. We don’t return evil for evil. It is our job to love them and show them the truth of Jesus. The media can try to paint Christian’s in any light they so choose but the light of Jesus Christ is not easily covered. It burns through all the lies and hypocrisy of the left. While the left would love the paint us with the same broad brush as with Islam, the fact remains that Christianity is the very antithesis of Islam.

Our God is the God of Love.

Allah is the god of hate.

Our faith demands that we return good for evil.

Their faith demands that they get vengeance for evil deeds committed against them.

Our faith shouts of the worth of all peoples.

Their faith says slay the infidel.

Our Savior, rebuked the men who prepared to murder a prostitute.

Their prophet, murdered thousands.

Our Savior responded with forgiveness when attacked.

Their prophet responded with violence when attacked.

Our Savior owned no slaves.

Their prophet owned many.

Our Savior lived a chaste life.

Their prophet had several wives; one of which was around nine or ten when the marriage was consummated.

Put simply, the very nature of Christianity makes it impossible for one to be both a Christian and a terrorist. While their (Muslim) faith makes it impossible to be truly devout without being anything but a terrorist or a supporter of terrorism.
