A Message to the Church

Make no mistake, this world wants to change us. It wants to take the gospel of Jesus Christ and turn it into a self-help, watered-down, social gospel, void of any mention of the nature of Jesus, sin or salvation. The Word of God tells us, in Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” You see friends, we don’t need more “self-help.” If we could’ve helped ourselves Jesus wouldn’t have had to come, suffer and die on the cross.

“Do not be conformed to this world.” Do not follow its standards of “good” because none is good, no not one. Do not follow the worlds standards of righteousness because our righteousness is like filthy rags. This world wants to hear “Christians” say that every faith is legitimate. That’s a lie from the pit of hell! There is no saving faith outside of a faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Am I open minded? No! So many in this culture have had such an open mind that their brains fell clean out!

As Christians in the modern era we try to avoid the terms fundamentalist and narrow-minded. They want us to reject fundamentalism but lets look at what the word “fundamental” actually means.

According to the dictionary:

fun·da·men·tal

–adjective

1.serving as, or being an essential part of, a foundation or basis; basic; underlying: fundamental principles; the fundamental structure.

2.of, pertaining to, or affecting the foundation or basis: a fundamental revision.

3.being an original or primary source: a fundamental idea.

You see, what the world wants us to reject is the “essential part of, a foundation or basis” of our Christian faith. Basically, they only want us to give up the things that make Christianity Christian! They want to tell us:

1. You can be a Christian but you need to give up Jesus.

2. You can be a Christian but you need to stop mentioning sin.

3. You can be a Christian but you need to give up “the way, the truth and the life.”

4. You can be a Christian but you need to embrace moral relativism.

5. You can be a Christian but you need to give up the Great Commission.

Pretty much, you can be a Christian just don’t be Christian.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:13, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” The narrow gate. We aren’t called to hate but we are called to be single minded about salvation through Jesus Christ. Its this narrow gate that leads to Heaven.

People, this is prophecy fulfilled. Jesus says that wide or open is the gate that leads to destruction and many will enter in by it. The faith is being compromised in the name of open-mindedness. It is being compromised in the name of ecumenicalism. Our minds aren’t being transformed by the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. We are, instead being transformed by the world and what they are transforming us into is frightening.

They are creating the church of Laodicea. They are creating the church of Sardis. They are creating the church of Thyatira. While we fail to be the Church of the living God. We have denominations that are now accepting and celebrating behavior that God calls abominable. One by one the mainline denominations fall in line. They each march to the beat of the drummer, all the while oblivious to who leads the band. The drummer is no less than Satan himself.

Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.” Salt preserves. It has a quality that saves that which it is sprinkled on. We who have been saved are called to spread the message of salvation. Jesus wants to preserve us from the coming wrath but many in the “church” have thrown Him underfoot. We exchanged darkness in place of salt and light. A darkness that allows moral decay; mold, if you will, to set in.

A church, ministry or denomination that fails to keep Jesus at the center is like the salt that has lost its flavor. It is of no use. It is like lukewarm water that the Lord will spew from His mouth.

Boldness is required! Change is required! The leadership of the Holy Spirit is required! We aren’t here just to make people feel better. We are here to spread the simple message that Jesus alone can save us. We are here to tell people, there is hope for alcoholism, there is hope for drug addiction, there is hope for marriages, there is hope for our children, there is hope for perversion, there is hope for your sinful life! That hope is none other than Jesus Christ, God the Son!

There is an remnant of true Christianity still alive but if we don’t spread it, our children will be deceived into hell. Our families will be deceived into hell!

Paul suffered prison and martyrdom. Peter suffered prison and martyrdom. All the Apostles of old suffered the threat of prison, torture and death by means that we can’t even imagine. Yet in the face of all that adversity they stood proud and uncompromising for Jesus Christ. In Acts chapter 5, Peter and the other apostles are brought before the ruling party. They are told, didn’t we tell you not to preach about Jesus and yet your out there spreading doctrine in his name. Peter responded boldly, “We ought to obey God rather than men.”

They faced death, yet proclaimed Jesus. Most of us, in America face nothing worse than ridicule and yet we back down; we compromise. Its time for some Peter’s and Paul’s to rise up in our ranks. Its time for the church to proclaim, once again that Jesus Christ is Lord and there is no other name by which men must be saved. It is time for us to stop being the church of Laodicea, Sardis and Thyatira and start being the church of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We have a choice to make. We can be popular or we can be saved.

As the lyrics of one song says:

“We grow up believing and praising and seeking the way that seem goods to a man. We try to create our own god in our heads, all to suit our own purpose and plans while our heart deceives us. We make our own Jesus. But Gods ways are not our own. You can’t live for the world and follow Gods son. Dear brother, dear sister if only I could give you just this advice: I pray you don’t long to be more popular than Christ.” More Popular than Christ by Kathleen Carnali

It’s time we spread the message, the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s not a popular or politically correct message but it is the only message that can save souls. We live in dying world, on its way to hell. Its only hope is Jesus Christ and we are called to be his body.

I pray that you will all be blessed and filled with Holy Ghost boldness as you fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission.
