Post Easter Message
Both Passover and Easter have come and gone but did you take the time to pause and think about the meaning of this beautiful season. Was your Easter more about brightly colored eggs, new outfits and family time or was it about the Savior who died on the cross of Calvary for your sins and rose again on the third day. I fear that a consequence of the commercialization of our Christian holiday’s (Easter and Christmas) is that the meaning often gets lost in the transition.
The world tries to sanitize Easter of any and all of its Christian elements; turning it into little more than a spring break. However, no matter how hard they try, they can not remove the significance of that day. The babe that was born, the Son of the Living God, grew to be a man. He taught the ways of God and reveled that He was both the Messiah and the Son of the Living God, second person of the Godhead. He healed the lame, freed those oppressed by demons, raised the dead and then … on one scandalous day He took away the sins of the world by dying on a cross of shame.
His disciples hunkered down in a house, fearful and discouraged because they understood not God’s great plan. What should have been a day of great joy, hope, faith and peace became a time of fear, disappointment and doubt. However they soon discovered an empty tomb and shortly after discovered something even greater … a risen Savior in their midst. His victory over death was their victory and ours. We can now stand victorious because He has conquered death, hell and the grave. He has remedied the curse of our sins and gave us the blessed hope of salvation! That should be enough to make you want to shout!
His ascension to the Father guaranteed that we too could one day ascend. Our faith in Him grants us the promises of the Father given unto Jesus because we are now joint heirs with Him. Can you even begin to understand that verse? Being a joint heir with Jesus Christ means everything promised to Him is also ours! As if salvation wasn’t enough to shout about, He offers us more!
John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name.” Though we were once enemies of God through our faith in Jesus we are now, not only the friends of God but the sons and daughters of God. Arise! You are a Kings kid! You have been adopted at a high price. Our sinful lives were of such value to God that He allowed God the Son to put on flesh, suffer and die so that you could once again be His.
Now the question is, have you received Him? If not, He stands ready and waiting on you. Nothing you may have done or said has ever changed His love for you. He tells us in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” For God so loved the world … yes he loves you even now, in all your mess. He says to you, come to me and I will give you rest. Just admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, just as we all were. Tell Jesus that you believe in Him and ask Him to forgive you. It’s an easy question to ask because I can already guarantee that the answer will be yes. Don’t take my word for it. Romans 10:33 says “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Now, to those who have received Him I ask, will you do your Father business? Will you share what has been shared with you? Jesus has already done the work. All that is asked of you is to share that knowledge. This world is drowning and you have been given a life jacket; the only life jacket big enough and strong enough to keep everyone afloat. You don’t have to go it alone. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to be our comforter, helper, teacher and source of power. Go out! Share the truth! The Easter message is that He has risen. However it’s also important to note that this message first came to the disciples because witnesses told them. Now it’s your turn to be the witnesses.
